7 Hermetic Principles – Law of Rhythm and Polarity Applied // The Ancient Art of Mental Alchemy

The mastery of Polarization is the mastery of the fundamental principles of Mental Transmutation or Mental Alchemy, for unless one acquires the art of changing his own polarity, he will be unable to affect his environment. An understanding of this principle will enable one to change his own Polarity, as well as that of others, if he will but devote the time, care, study and practice necessary to master the art. The principle is true, but the results obtained depend upon the persistent patience and practice of the student.

Everything is dual; Everything has poles; Everything has its pair of opposites; Like and unlike are the same; Opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; Extremes meet; All truths, are but half-truths; All paradoxes may be reconciled. –The Law of Polarity Everything flows, out and in; Everything has its tides; All things rise and fall; The pendulum swing manifests in everything; The measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; Rhythm compensates. – The Law of Rhythm

The Law of Polarity (Mutable): The fourth of the seven Universal Laws tells us that “Everything is dual, everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree”. It is also the first of the mutable or transcendable Universal Laws. It means that there are two sides to everything. Things that appear as opposites are in fact only two extremes of the same thing. For instance, heat and cold may appear to be opposites at first glance, but in truth they are simply varying degrees of the same thing. The same applies to love and hate, peace and war, positive and negative, good and evil, yes and no, light and darkness, energy and matter. You can transform your thoughts from hate to love, from fear to courage by consciously raising your vibrations. This is what in the ancient Hermetic Teachings is called the Art of Polarization.

This Law is Mutable – You can transcend this law. Rise above duality. By way of The Hermetic Art of Polarization and Learning to hold the Balance. As well as seeking UNDERSTANDING which frees you from the binds of dogma, good and evil.

The Law of Rhythm (Mutable): The EB AND FLOW

“Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates.” It is the second of the mutable or transcendable Universal Laws and means that the pendulum swings in everything. This principle can be seen in operation in the waves of the ocean, in the rise and fall of the greatest empires, in business cycles, in the swaying of your thoughts from being positive to negative and in your personal successes and failures. In accordance with this Law, when anything reaches a point of culmination then the backward swing begins almost unnoticeably until such time that any forward movement has been totally reversed, then the forward movement begins again and the process is repeated.

Rising Above the Law of Rhythm: To transcend the swing of the pendulum, you must become aware of the subtle start of the backward movement in any of your endeavours whether it be to improve your health, your finances, your relationships or any goal you may set in motion. When you feel the Law start to draw you back do not become fearful or discouraged. Instead, knowing that you are one with the Omnipotent Universal Mind for which nothing is impossible, keep your thoughts focused on your outcome and fight to remain positive no matter how far back this transitory Law pulls you. Even if your efforts meet with failure, find comfort that by virtue of this very same Law, the upward motion must start again. In time, your perseverance will be rewarded as the backward movements become less negative relative to your previous backward swings and you raise yourself higher

Nature and life have a rhythm to it. Your breath has a rhythm. The tides of the oceans have a rhythm. The economy has a rhythm. They all move in an order of action and reaction, advance and retreat, rising and falling.This is manifested in all aspects of our lives and we see this in the ups and downs of situations we come across.

Mastering The Law of Rhythm // Mental ALCHEMY

The Law of Rhythm shows us that there is a natural order to things, and that eventually all things come back around like how a pendulum swings. This is one law that if you do not learn how to master it, it WILL master you. What this means is, when we allow ourselves to get so caught up in life, it will manifest in our bodies as stress, sickness, disease. And in our lives as chaos, negativity, disorder, unhappiness, etc.

To master this law, you must be able to look at the ebb and flow of life from a netural place and also be able to polarize (where the Law of Polarization comes into play) yourself at a place you want to rest where you will not be affected by this inevitable to and fro of life.

Hermetist transmute one mental state into another, With the Art Nuetralization and the Art Polarization.  Deeper into the Mental Alchemy and Polarization –

• Things belonging to different classes cannot be transmuted into each other, but things of the same class may be changed
•  Ie. Hate may be transformed into Love, by changing its polarity. Courage may be transmuted into Fear, and the reverse. Hard things may be rendered Soft. Dull things become Sharp. Hot things become Cold.
• Take the case of a Fearful man. By raising his mental vibrations along the line of Fear- Courage, he can be filled with the highest degree of Courage and Fearlessness. And, likewise, the Slothful man may change himself into an Active, Energetic individual simply by polarizing along the lines of the desired quality.

By changing your polarity you may master your moods, change your mental states, remake your disposition, and build up character. Much of the Mental Mastery of the advanced Hermetics is due to this application of Polarity, which is one of the important aspects of Mental Transmutation. Remember the Hermetic Axiom (quoted previously), which says:

« Mind (as well as metals and elements) may be transmuted from state to state; degree to degree, condition to condition; pole to pole; vibration to vibration. » —The Kybalion.
